Sunday Fun

Today ended up nothing like I imagined. We got up and went to 8am mass, as usual, and then had donuts at church afterward. T.J. lingered a bit longer than I wanted, and as we made our way to the car, we noticed it was raining pretty steadily. Bronwen and T.J. went ahead to the covered walkway, and Lila meandered towards the fountain. She wasn't happy when I didn't let her linger, and began pitching a mini-fit. Then Bronwen got upset because it was raining, and her Hello Kitty umbrella was in the car. This didn't matter since T.J. was pulling the van around to pick us up, but no matter--we had two weeping kids in the car on the way home.

Once we were home, I let Bronwen have her umbrella, figuring she would want to play outside in the barely sprinkling rain for a few minutes. Lila joined in too, and I went in the house, leaving T.J. supervising.

The rain started up again, not too heavy, but certainly not sprinkling either. Lila came in the house, wet and tired, and I changed her and went to see what Bronwen was up to. Once again, the rain was barely coming down, and Bronwen, still in her church clothes, was trying to gather the rain dripping from the corner of the house into a bucket to pour on T.J.'s car, saying, "I'm washing Daddy's car."

This would not do--she was gathering a tablespoon of water at a time, and the rain trickle was slowing down. The next thing I knew, T.J. backed his car out of the garage, and I went inside to get a sponge, and the following fun time ensued. Yes, she is still wearing her church clothes, but they were already wet by this time, so what is one to do? I was certainly not going to interrupt the fun!

Chalk--Part 1

The mornings here have been much cooler recently, and I was thrilled to go outside with the girls after we had breakfast and play.

Chalk--Part 2

Brushing Teeth With Spike

So sorry for the lapse in blogging, but things have been both busy and not busy around here. Busy in that we are always on the go, not busy in that we're just running boring errands and not doing much worth blogging about. Plus a couple of weeks ago I was sick, and since then I have just felt a bit tired and lazy during my free time. Here are a few pictures T.J. took of Lila after bath--she loves brushing her teeth, both old and emerging!

Bronwen's Perspective

Bronwen does know we are having another baby, although she doesn't mention it much. Today she brought it up on her own, and this is what she said, in her sweet little voice:

"I am getting a new brother or sister because I don't like Lila."

Just warms a mother's heart.

Peek-A-Boo and Tooth Sightings

Story Time

At the beginning Lila is trying to read her own book, Flippy...the page she is stuck on is the Jalopy Flippy page where we usually sway side to side and say, "Tooca Tooca Bang Bang!" I think she was trying to do it on her own.

Sorry

No new posts in a awhile--Bronwen has been sick and now she has shared with me. I'll be heading to the doctor today to try to nip this thing in the bud.

Lila is finally getting some top teeth, which is exciting. I am fairly certain she has 4 top ones coming in at once. She has been wanting her pacifier more than usual, but other than that, she is as sweet as ever.

Okay--going to go get some Tylenol now.

BR Balloon Festival

It was hot--darn hot--but we braved the Baton Rouge Balloon Festival anyhow. Immediately we found a spot in the shade, and TJ, in true hunter/gatherer mode, went off to find some dinner. Lila, Bronwen and I had to entertain ourselves on a tiny patch of grass in the shade, but we managed until TJ returned. I admit I had an amazing turkey and mozzarella crepe sandwich--yes, it was in a crepe. Bronwen enjoyed a tasty hot dog, even though TJ had to remedy his grievous mistake of putting yellow cheese on the top of it (plain, only!), and Lila enjoyed whatever scraps we would throw her way. That sounds worse than it was, since she was the only one who had a snack before we left the house.

They had a children's area, but it consisted of activities that were either too old for the girls, or that had a ridiculously long line. We did go by the petting zoo area where they got to see ducklings, rabbits, chicks, and a baby goat, and they loved it.

Finally, as dusk settled in and it began to "cool" down, the balloons began to inflate:I was really hot--don't know if you can tell :-)
Finally, the balloons are up!
Bronwen waits expectantly for the big finale:
Her favorite part, besides the glow, was counting down from 10 every time they got ready for the glow--she kept asking me to count down again and again with her:
Both girls stayed awake for the whole thing; we didn't stay for the 9:30 fireworks, but I have to say they were both so good on the ride home and for their late bath. I was especially impressed at how much of a trooper Lila was. She can definitely hang with the big kids!

Morning Artwork

Bronwen was up early this morning, and I told her she could draw on her easel until it was 7--the time when she is "allowed" to call for me. She came running out of her room into mine to inform me that she drew a tree. I admit I was a little shocked when I walked into her room and saw...

A super awesome tree!

I showed her the above picture, and she was concerned that I didn't get all the tree in it, so I took another. She pointed out that she made branches on the trunk. I am so proud of her--this is her first identifiable picture!

Playing in the Rain

During nap time on Tuesday we had a terrific thunderstorm. Bronwen woke up realizing it had rained and immediately asked to go outside to wear her new galoshes. Lila was happy to go too.

First things first--some puddle jumping:

Bronwen's method of playing? Running right through the middle of the biggest puddle she could find:

Lila, on the other hand, was a little more timid. Here, she checks out the water:
Gives it a feel:
Okay, actually she was not timid at all. T.J. informed me she saw the water and plopped herself right down in it and splashed.
Time to go home!

Part 2

T.J. was making me dizzy going around the island, so I made him go straight down the hallway this time.

Silly games--Together

Yes, Bronwen is wearing her birthday suit. It is really hot here :-)
