Hot Day at Playground
We went to Charlotte yesterday to visit Jill, Dylan, Maddie and their new baby, Lydia. The menfolk were supposed to take the girls to the neighborhood pool, but it turns out it opens late on Sunday. As a result, they had to go to the playground--and it was hot! Naturally, they are troopers, but they also didn't stay too long.
Meanwhile, Adam stayed with the ladies at the house, napping. He had a late lunch at home, but didn't seem to mind too much.

The Golden Triangle of Destiny
Coming home from a business trip, I went in to say goodnight to the girls. Lila was already asleep. Bronwen gives me a hug from her top bunk and whispers "I missed you, Daddy." As my heart melts, the following exchange occurs:
D: I missed you too, Bronwen.
B: Where were you?
D: I was in Minnesota.
B: Did you see Mel?*
D: Yes, I saw Mel. We had a meeting this morning. We talked about clues, but we didn't find the Golden Triangle of Destiny.*
B: Where was it?
D: We didn't find it.
B: Oh, but where is it?
D: It's in the wilderness.
B: Where is that?
D: Minnesota Mel thinks that the Golden Triangle of Destiny is somewhere in the vast wilderness of the mountains of North Carolina.
B: Oh, where is that?
D: You know where the mountains of North Carolina are, you've been there before. Remember?
B: Yes. We went through the woods at the mountain house. Is the Golden Triangle of Destiny there?
D: It very well could be.
B: Oh. Does it have sparkly jewels on it?
D: I don't know. I think it does, but Minnesota Mel showed me some clues that indicate that it's just plain, without any jewels.
B: Well, I think it does have shiny jewels on it. Can we look for it?
D: Absolutely. I think the next time we go to the mountains of North Carolina, we'll have to explore the vast wilderness to see if we can find it.
* For those in the audience who are not regular viewers of Sesame Street, Minnesota Mel is SS's version of Indiana Jones, whose quest is to find the Golden Triangle of Destiny.

Baby Talk
Lila is growing up so fast, but she still retains a little bit of her baby talk--she says things in such a cute way, and there are still some things we can't quite understand. I would say that since she has turned 2, she has improved in her speech dramatically. Instead of understanding about 60% of what she says/means, we now get about 90%. Then come times when she says something so clearly, so grown-up, that I get sad that her cute little speech is progressing so rapidly.
Tonight as we were watching Dora, (which has progressed from "gung-ya" to "DOOR-ah") they had to climb the volcano, and she said, clear as a bell, "Oh my goodness."
And she informed me a few moments ago:
"Mama, I want cold milk. In purple cup. With the green top."
